Answers for students and mentors using HashHackCode Academy. In a live workshop, the quickest help is your mentor in the room.
Get started
- Install HashHackCode Academy from the Chrome Web Store.
- Open the page you are working on and click the extension’s icon in the toolbar, or press
Alt+Shift+H. Pin the icon from Chrome’s puzzle-piece menu so it is always visible. - Choose Student, type your name, your email or phone, and the passcode on the screen. Capitals do not matter.
Sending a task
- Open the task and put the first thing it asks for on screen — for example your HTML file, or your finished design.
- Press Capture. The drawer hides itself while the picture is taken, then shows it.
- Repeat for each screenshot the task asks for. Screenshots marked optional can be left out.
- Press Send. Your mentor reviews it; if it comes back, read the note on the task and capture again.
Only the browser tab you are looking at is captured, and only when you press Capture. Close anything private before capturing.
Opening the drawer
- Anywhere: click the extension icon in Chrome’s toolbar, or press
Alt+Shift+H. This works on any website, including your own Netlify pages. - On Canva and codezing.in: a round # button in the corner of the page opens it too. Tabs that were open before you installed get the button on their own; if one does not, reload it.
- Hide the # button: open the account menu in the drawer and choose Hide the # button, or right-click the extension icon → Options → turn off Show the round # button.
First capture on a tab: Chrome lets an extension photograph a tab only after you click its icon on that tab. If you opened the drawer with the # button, your first Capture asks for that click: click the HashHackCode Academy icon in the toolbar and the screenshot is taken straight away. Opening the drawer with the icon in the first place avoids the extra step.
For mentors
- In the extension, choose Mentor and sign in with your workshop account to open tasks, switch quizzes on and chat with the room.
- Review screenshots, answer questions, plan activities and run sessions in the Workshop Console.
If something goes wrong
Every message in the extension ends with a short code. Tell your mentor the code, or include it when you write to us.

Removing your data
In the extension’s Options, Sign out and clear this device removes your sign-in and preferences from this browser. To delete the work you sent to a session, write to hi@hashhackcode.com with the session name and the email or phone you joined with. See the privacy policy.
